New League Coordinator 01/25/09 Please welcome Janet Shellenberger as your new league coordinator! She will be starting as the new Spring 2009 starts. I have enjoyed getting to know you all...be it just by emails or time on the court. I will miss having the regular communication with you, but you know my email or I will see you on the courts. Have a wonderful spring season. My best to all of you. Lera League member - FINALS WINNER! 10/06/08 Just wanted to share some great news about one of our league members. Sherry Hale of our A2 Lakewood team won the Finals of the Women's 4.0 Singles division. The 2008 Gallery Furniture Houston Fall Festival tennis tournament was held this past weekend at Lee LeClear Tennis Center. Sherry Hale def. Sherry Pekar, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Congratulations, Sherry! Postponing match on 9/22/08 09/21/08 Our Monday, September 22, 2008, match will be postponed. Please tack this match to the end of your scheduled season. This second postponement of a match will now extend your season by two weeks. Hurricane Ike 09/14/08 Hurricane Ike swept through and left his mark. We hope that your damages were not too extensive and families are safe. With the situation being more extensive than we had ever wanted, we will be postponing the Monday night, September 15th, tennis matches for NHTL to the end of the season. Please move this match to the end of your current playing calendar. SEPTEMBER 8,2008~New season!! 08/28/08 The Fall 2008 schedules have been sent out to all the captain's and co-captain's. It has not been posted on the website yet, but looking for it to be on the internet by September 1, 2008. The Captain's contact list has also been sent out. Thank you all for being so efficient in getting your rosters and payment in on time. We lost two teams in A2, Northampton and Gleannloch Farms. We hope that they will be able to regroup next year. Many thanks to Karla Griffith and Jeanne O'Sullivan for putting in their time in getting the schedule organized and ready to go. There are definite advantages in having 3 brains working together! Please thank them when you see them. Register for Fall 2008 season 07/30/08 An email has been sent out to all captain's regarding the registration for Fall 2008. I got a few returned but I think I have those corrected. Let me know if you did not receive my email...chinadoll247@gmail.com Roster forms, scoresheets, league rules, and the newly agreed Coman Tiebreak rules are all available online. REMEMBER...deadline for registration is August 15!! Spring Meeting Report 07/09/08 The Spring Meeting was held on May 19, 2008. Gift certificates to Sports Express were awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each division. Since gift certificates have never been awarded before, everyone seemed to be pleased. It was voted that we would now play a Coman Tiebreaker which is what is being done by USTA. This will be added and explained to the rules so please make sure everyone follows the new tiebreaker rules next season. There will also be something added to the rules about what line the Line 1 & 2 single players can play. This has been a problem in the past since it was only explained on the scoresheet. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU REVIEW THE NEW RULES AND MAKE SURE YOUR TEAM MEMBERS ARE AWARE OF THE NEW CHANGES. We also voted that next season prizes will only be awarded for the 1st and 2nd places in each division. I am in the process of updating the rules. The new rules will be posted probably in a few days. Final Standings 05/14/08 Here are the final standings: 1st - A2 - Giammalva 1st - A3 - Spring Creek Forest 1st - B1 - Champions Park 2nd - A2 - Champions Park North 2nd - A3 - Spring Creek Oaks 2nd - B1 - Norchester 3rd - A2 - Gleannloch Farms 3rd - A3 - Oak Creek Village 3rd - B1 - Fountainhead If your team has won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, please have someone at the meeting to pick up the prizes. The meeting is Monday, May 19th, Cypresswood Clubhouse at 7:00 pm. Spring Meeting - Monday, May 1 05/06/08 The Spring Meeting for NHTA will be held Monday, May 19th at the Cypresswood Clubhouse at 7:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each division. I had thought about only doing 1st and 2nd place, but it states in the rules prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd & 3rd. That is something we might want to discuss at the meeting. Please check your scores to make sure they agree with your totals. All scores have been reported for A3 & B1 Divisions so unless someone reports a mistake A3 would be 1st - Spring Creek Forest, 2nd - Spring Creek Oaks & 3rd - Oak Creek Village. A2 Division still has one makeup which will determine who wins. It needs to be scheduled as soon as possible. B1 1st would be Champions Park, 2nd - Norchester and 3rd - Fountainhead. Please check your scores and report any discrepancies to me immediately. If you have anything that needs to be discussed at the meeting, please email me and let me know before the meeting. Captains of the winning teams, please come to the meeting to pick up the prizes or send someone else if you cannot attend. All members of every team are invited and we would love to see everyone at the meeting. I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting on the 19th. We Have a New Coordinator! 04/30/08 I wish to introduce the new tennis coordinator for NHTA. Her name is Lera Wong and she plays on the Huntwick A2 team. Thank you so much, Lera, for saving the night league! She will have help from Karla Griffith, also from Huntwick, and Janet Shellenberger from Lakewood Forest. Thanks to all of you for volunteering to keep our league going. I know you will do a great job! Lera will be introduced at the Spring meeting which I hope to be May 19th. I am having trouble connecting with the lady at the Cypresswood tennis club to reserve the clubhouse. I am sure we will be able to have it somewhere on May 19th I am just not for sure where at this point. I will let you know as soon as possible. For now, just plan on May 19th! I want to again thank the ladies who have agreed to take over on the night league. I have enjoyed doing this for the past two years, but am looking forward to just playing now with no coordinator responsibilities. I hope to see everyone at the Spring meeting to welcome Lera and thank her for taking over so we can continue to play tennis on Monday night. |
